What's On This Site

Site ThumbnailThis is rtp - "Reversing The Polarity" [formerly WoodysNet] - the personal website of Alan Woodward.

This website is very much a work in progress and has been since its creation, way back on 6th December 2001. It gets updated as and when the Author discovers (or writes) new material - or has "a bloody good idea"™ . The Latest Updates links (at the bottom of the page) will give a brief outline of what was last added to the site and when. For a full list of site updates, then visit the Site Update archive page, where all changes can be read in full.

This is the seventh incarnation of the website - which means the design has changed (the look of it and sometimes the content!) seven times (ish) since I first created it way back in 2001. Undoubtedly, I'll will be changing the design again, however most of the information will (might) remain!

Navigation is via the menu at the top with (dropdown) sub menus where appropriate.

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop

BBC Radiophonic WorkshopThis website was originally designed as a source of information for The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, it's members and it's work. Although all of this information is around on the Internet (somewhere!) this site is meant to bring it all together into a coherent and readable fashion.

The intention of the BBCRW articles is for readers to gain an enjoyable insight into this collection of musical and electronic geniuses, who worked for this little known BBC Department from 1958 to 1995 (and on).

I hope you enjoy the information presented on this site and if any of it is copyright without the owner's consent, then I apologise - please contact me and I'll remove it - no infringement is intended. Most information is © BBC no infringement is intended.

Recent additions to the BBCRW Members Pages are the biographies of the main Radiophonic Workshop members and on the BBCRW Doctor Who Page, a 1 hour radio programme that was dedicated to Delia Derbyshire.

BBC's Inside Out programme featured an eight minute piece fronted by Stuart Maconie, that highlighted a little bit of Delia's career (mostly the Doctor Who theme). The whole section is on the BBCRW Doctor Who Page. Included in the new Radiophonic Workshop Video section is a download link to "Alchemists of Sound" - a documentary made for BBC Four that focussed on the work of the Radiophonic Workshop from 1959 to 1995.

Hammer Films

Hammer Horror LogoHaving an interest in Hammer Films - particularily the Hammer Horror films of the late 60's early 70's, I've put together a history of Hammer Film Productions from 1934 to the present day. This history is not a listed filmography, it is a written history of the conception, the implementation and the production of the Hammer Film Company from when William Hinds first formed the company, to the present day. [The main article is quite long and detailed - be warned!]

The history is by no means complete and we will be adding filmography listings in the future once the information has been collated!

Hammer Films were synonymous with horror and gore films in the late 1960's 1970's and to reflect their contribution to the film industry - the horror film industry in particular - there is a history of the Hammer company from 1934 to present day.

Hammer employed such stars at the time as Peter Cushing and Sir Christopher Lee, who cemented their performances of Baron Victor Frankenstein and Dracula into the ethos of horror films for years to come. Several genre films made since Hammer stopped making their Gothic Horror pieces have been made deliberately in the "Hammer Style", reflecting the influence that the film production company had over today's film makers and producers.

Hammer Horror films in particular were also famous for launching (or not, in some cases!) the careers of several young actresses - collectively (and endearing) called the Hammer Glamour Girls.

A sub section of the Hammer Story are features about of the so-called Hammer Glamour Girls - starting with Valerie Leon.

Author's Blog

There is an Author's Blog too - a chance for the author to let off steam, or generally comment about things that he comes across in everyday life. Amusing, funny, sad, witty and angry...all in one place! You may read - and you may comment (however you cannot post new items). Comment freely, however bear in mind that comments are moderated before publishing - if I don't like it - it ain't published!!

About The Author

About The Author - is literally what it says it is - a couple of pages about me (the webmaster and author), my websites and why I did those websites! There's my Twitter account address, Facebook Page address and a potted biography of me to date. Enjoy!

The Author is also a long time Doctor Who fan. Hence the BBCRW Pages and the "Time Left until the next Doctor Who Episode" counter at the bottom right of the page. Please note that although the counter reflects the time left until the next UK airing of Doctor Who, it will adjust to your time zone. (Not that it's any help, of course.)
