Not blogged in a while. Three months almost - which is about the same time period between the last ones. How odd.

So - a new tag (TV - Film) mainly because I've just watched a film! This, not being a remarkable thing, as I watch many films, but this one was a bit of a different experience.

Lesbian Vampire KillersThe film in question is the title of the blog - "Lesbian Vampire Killers". It's a UK-made film about...er...lesbian vampire killers! Killers of lesbian vampires, that is and not killers that are lesbian vampires. Well, it could be. Anyway.

I bought the film (on Blu-Ray, incidentally) for two reasons. 1) Amazon (Gawd luvvem) recommended it to me, 2) it was on offer and 3) It has a Doctor Who link.

Alright, that's three reasons, but a Doctor Who link? Eh?

That wasn't particularily apparent until a bit more looking into it was done (i.e. clicking on the Amazon link!). So, the Doctor Who link is Paul McGann, MyAnna Buring, Lucy Gaskell and James Corden. Paul McGann was, of course the 8th Doctor, MyAnna Buring was "Scooti" in the 10th Doctor adventure "The Impossible Planet", Lucy Gaskell played Kathy Nightingale in the 10th Doctor adventure "Blink" and James Corden is to be in next week's 11th Doctor adventure "The Lodger".

OK, so given that I've only ever seen James Corden on Sport Relief (never watched Gavin and Stacey or Horne and Corden, or anything else he's been in) I was curious as to what his acting style would be like - hence the purchase of the aforementioned film, which has more of my favourite subjects - Vampires and Killers.

Given that I've not read any reviews of the film, know very little about it etc I started to watch it a couple of days ago. Without spoiling it, suffice to say it has Lesbian Vampires, some pretty women and some killers in it! So basically, I'm going into this film completely blind without any forewarning of plot, quality or performance.

If this had been a few years ago, a couple maybe, then I would have probably watched the first 30 minutes and then switched it off mumbling about having wasted eight quid. However, over the last two years or so, I've started - mainly through Twitter, but also from other internet sources as well - following and reading writers, reviewers and other public-commentry types. So I've found that this has put a whole new slant on the way that I view entertainment such as films, books and TV Series.

Following (and I mean not just "following" on Twitter - but looking up-watching-reading their work) writers such as James Moran and Matthew Graham, reviewers such as Jason Arnopp, Dan Owen, Benjamin Cook and Dan Berry gives you a different perpective on how to view-read-look at things. To think about what your watching and - the crucial part - to see it through to the end, regardless.

Hence the film verdict: yes, I liked it! I wouldn't give it many out of ten for a few things, but due to the above people changing my attitude towards viewing and writing, it made the film all the more enjoyable - by noticing things like edits, sound cues, the special effects (all too easy to knock the special effects!) and a whole host of other things that I wouldn't have normally noticed.....especially if I'd turned it off after 30 minutes!

So thanks to you writers and reviewers!

I was born in 1961 in a house, in a street, in Gloucester! Now 50 years old, I still live near Gloucester (in a village just outside) with nice views of the countryside and a lovely old church. Sadly, it's right next to a main road. Ah well.
